About Me
My background
My fascination with model trains began at an early age... the age of four to be exact. That year I woke up to a 4x8 sheet of plywood under the Christmas tree, the likes of which I had never seen. It was a glorious mess of everything 1970's HO scale trains had to offer. A few cars were on the only siding track at the front along with a small AT&SF steam engine. There were a few plastic buildings, a water tower, and the worlds most hideous foam molded mountain at the back of a pretty basic oval. The whole board was covered in that hidious grass mat stuff but I can see it in my mind like I was still there right now.
After the usual morning of opening gifts, eating the cookies that Santa had to be too full to finish, and visiting with all the family there, my father in his typical fashion, said I had missed something! Yikes! A gift has gone unopened??? How could this be? So began the search for this mysterious missed item. After a few minutes of torture and laughter, my father walked over to the train board, threw on the controller, and out from that nasty foam mountain (But completely AWESOME at the time) powered a glorious F3 A and B with B&O blue gray and gold stripes loco set pulling B&O passenger cars! Stick a fork in me... Im done. My father looks at my mother and says, what the heck is wrong with him? I can't beleive he didn't turn it on an hour ago...
On the way into my twenties I abandoned HO for the more space saving N scale. Fast forward through a lot of years and I found myself retired from a career as a custom jeweler. Coincidentally a career that involved working on very tiny things with precision and the tools suited to such work. Finally, as I relax and settle into my plan for the model railroad I've always wanted, I have started to design things I'd like to display for myself. While 3D printing opens up a much larger world of options to people, I find myself really wanting to make the bulk of the impressive stuff. Hard to say where this will go... if anywhere at all which is most likely haha!
